As we head into 2025, the demand for data engineers in Ireland continues to rise, with a significant surge in job opportunities across various platforms. At E-Frontiers, we understand the importance of staying informed and ahead of market trends. That’s why our Principal Recruitment Consultant, Emma Bradley, who specialises in Data, is here to share the key trends shaping the data engineering landscape:

Growth in Job Advertisements

Tech Job Market

According to LinkedIn’s 2023 Economic Graph report, Ireland is consistently one of the top countries for tech job growth in Europe, particularly in data engineering and analytics. While the exact number of data engineering roles fluctuates, the demand for data-related jobs in general has grown significantly in recent years, with a noticeable jump in positions requiring expertise in cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence.

Recruitment Data

A search on platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor reveals thousands of open data engineering roles. As of January 2025, LinkedIn alone lists over 1,000 data engineering positions in Ireland, spanning multinational corporations, local tech firms, and various industries, including finance and manufacturing.

Industry-Specific Demand

Tech Sector: Ireland is home to major global tech firms like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, all of which consistently seek data engineers to enhance and expand their data infrastructure.

 – A LinkedIn search for “Data Engineer” positions frequently returns job postings from these companies, reflecting the ongoing strong demand for professionals in this field.

 – The presence of these tech giants in Ireland underscores the increasing need for skilled data engineers to support large-scale data operations and innovation.

Finance & FinTech: The expanding fintech sector, including companies like Stripe and Revolut, drives significant demand for data engineers to develop scalable financial systems, enhance compliance, and prevent fraud. At any given time, Indeed lists over 100 data engineering jobs in fintech alone.

Healthcare and Pharma: The healthtech and pharma sectors are also growing. Companies such as Medtronic and Johnson & Johnson offer opportunities for data engineers to manage clinical data, regulatory compliance, and advanced data analytics platforms.

Salary Trends

In terms of salary, data engineers in Ireland are among the highest-paid tech professionals. As of 2024:

The average salary for a data engineer in Ireland ranges from €55,000 to €85,000 annually, depending on experience and location (with more senior roles reaching €100,000+).

Roles in large multinational companies or specialised sectors like finance can offer even higher salaries due to the complexity of the work and the expertise required.

Projected Growth

According to a report from S&P Global, the data analytics and engineering field is projected to grow by 14% annually in Ireland over the next 3-5 years, driven by both multinational companies (FDI) and the rising indigenous tech startups.

The Irish Government’s National Skills Strategy 2025 also highlights data and AI skills as key areas of investment, indicating a continued effort to develop this field and drive job growth in the data engineering sector.

Recruitment Agencies

Recruitment agencies regularly post numerous data engineering roles across both FDI and local sectors, signaling robust and sustained demand. These roles emphasise the need for candidates with expertise in cloud computing platforms, big data tools, and data pipeline architecture.

Conclusion

As of early 2025, more than 1,000 data engineering roles are listed on major job platforms in Ireland, with many more anticipated as the country’s economy undergoes digital transformation. The tech sector, particularly FDI, continues to be the main driver of these opportunities, though the local sector is also seeing rising demand as Irish businesses expand their data capabilities. Salaries remain competitive, and the sector is expected to grow further, fueled by the increasing reliance on data for decision-making and innovation across various industries.
